Day 6, Small Pause, "Visitor Captured"

My elusive visitor.

Today's "Small Pause"...

My elusive visitor returned today! While I was busy working in my kitchen this morning, I happened to catch a glimpse of him below my bird feeders. I have been waiting for several days to spot him so I could snap a photo of our gorgeous pheasant friend.

He only makes one visit a day, so I was delighted to unexpectedly witness his presence today. It was fun to watch him shuffling through the snow hunting for seeds. His chicken like behaviors made me chuckle. His head darted up and down as he scratched the snow periodically.

Full body View.

Look at those tail feathers!

I enjoyed viewing his beautiful markings and wonderful colors through my camera lens. Witnessing his visit today was an unexpected surprise that made me smile.

Warmly,
Debbie

Day 5, Small Pause, "Early Morning Sky"

Today's "Small Pause"...

While on my way to work this morning, I was struck by nature's visual beauty. After yesterday's snowfall, we awoke to a clear winter sky. A beautiful light infused the horizon, magically turning land and objects a pink, violet hue. The sun's brightness lit up vertical and horizontal edges of buildings making them glow.

I began to mix paints in my mind, thinking about what colors I would use to replicate nature's gorgeous palette. I imagined my brush painting glazes of color and sweeping it over land masses just like mother nature. It was a wonderful image I tucked away in my mind for future inspiration.

Day 4, Small Pause, "Gentle Snow"

A gentle snowfall in Plymouth, Nova Scotia.

Today's "Small Pause"...

There is something incredibly peaceful about a gentle snowfall. Today I felt a great sense of peace and contemplation as I watched tiny white flakes drift gently to the ground. This type of day reminds me of a whisper. It is cozy and nurtures a slower pace. I very much enjoyed this small pause as I sipped on hot tea in the quiet of my home.

Day 3, Small Pause, "Swings"

Today's "Small Pause"...

Teaching grade one students can be very busy as you can imagine. Today while I was on a planning period, I happened to lift my head from planning at my desk and noticed a swing set in the playground. There wasn't a child in sight, just a gentle motion from the unoccupied swings as a winter chill rocked them gently. Suddenly, a happy memory of younger days was triggered.

I smiled remembering those special days with friends swinging in swing sets on the playground. I remember the feeling of delight and exhilaration as we swung faster, trying to fly up to the sky. Even more exciting was slowing down and then jumping off before the swing stopped! Laughing we would jump back on and do it all over again.

Day 2, Small Pause, "Birds"

Upwards, 20x16in. Oil on canvas by Debbie Lamey-MacDonald

Today's  "Small Pause"...

While on my way to work this morning, I found my mind filling up with the busyness of my day that had not begun yet. I knew it was going to be a demanding day and already my mind was reacting to this knowledge. Suddenly out of no where a large flock of birds flew upwards soaring in front and above my car.

Nature once again brought me to a present moment. It slowed down my mind and created a feeling of freedom and awe. I love watching birds in flight. They always create a sense of wonder and a feeling of freedom. I think it must be really awesome to be free, soaring above in a wide open space. This small moment stayed with me for the day and gave me a mental escape when my day whirled on around me.

Today's "Small Pause"....

I love feeding birds and have several feeders hanging on my back doorstep. I take delight in seeing all my visitors as I pass by my kitchen window. Recently, we have been having visits from an unexpected guest. A gorgeous pheasant who has been feeding below the feeders! Sometimes his cry alerts me to his presence and I run out to the kitchen to see if I can catch a glimpse of him, knowing he might dash away quickly due to his timid nature.

Today, I was thrilled to see him again. I quickly grabbed my camera, jumped up on a kitchen chair and was just about to snap a photo when he rapidly dashed away after seeing my movement in the window. It was so delightful to see him and witness his beauty today. I am determined to snap a photo of him in the near future. Such an elusive guy!!
